St Mark's Spotswood - Children's Ministry Coordinator

Our Yarraville Anglican Parish worships at St Mark’s Anglican Church – a brand new worship centre on the corner of Melbourne and Hudson Roads, Spotswood. We are a small, active, worshipful and committed group of Christians with a children’s program during the main Sunday service.

We want our children to have the best start possible in their own individual and collective walk of Christian faith and knowledge. We want to see them embedded and belonging in the Christian church family. This position will therefore provide intentional, age and ability appropriate Christian ministry to children and young people.

The position is for 10 hours per week, with exact working days and hours to be negotiated.

Responsibilities and Attributes:

  • The weekly program of learning for children of the congregation
  • The monthly scheduled 10am Sunday All Age Service, and the occasional Messy Church Sunday morning Service (two to four times per year)
  • Participate in the implementation of the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne Code of Conduct for Child Safety Policy
  • A desire to see children grow in Christ at St Mark’s
  • Capacity to coordinate and encourage a small volunteer team
  • A high level of integrity and ability to uphold confidentiality

Education & Experience:

  • Expressed Christian faith
  • Ability and interest in creative approaches to bring the Bible alive
  • Willingness to undergo a mandatory National Police History check
  • Willingness to undergo a mandatory Working With Children check
  • Nomination of two referees, one of whom is a Church leader.
  • Previous involvement in Children’s or Youth ministry would be welcomed but not essential
  • Formal qualifications in childhood learning and development would be welcomed but not essential
  • Formal qualifications in teaching or caring for children with additional needs would be welcomed but not essential
  • Experience in Godly Play and/or Messy Church, or a willingness to undertake training in these methodologies, is welcomed.

Remuneration is according to the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne Stipend Determination No.34 (October 2019) for Authorised Stipendiary Lay Ministers. This is reviewed annually.
