Petition to AFL: Keep Good Friday free of football
May 10 2016Melbourne Anglican Bishop Philip Huggins has launched an online petition to the AFL, calling on it to continue to be “respectful and kind” and keep Good Friday free of football.
“The significance of Good Friday to disciples of Jesus goes to the heart of our lives and focuses us on matters of eternal significance,” he said.
“The tradition of Good Friday as a holy day goes back centuries before Aussie Rules was even invented. People of faith, also football fans and club members, urge the tradition be maintained. It would be unkind and disrespectful to do otherwise.”
The petition will be shared with staff at the AFL in June.
