The Revd Lyall Alexander Turley
March 16 2017Lyall Turley died on Saturday morning 11 March. After studying at St John’s College Morpeth he was ordained Deacon in Melbourne in 1965 and Priest, also in Melbourne, in 1966.
He served as Curate in Pascoe Vale (1965-67); Assistant Priest in Rabaul PNG (1967-68 and Rector (1968-72); Rector of Cooma (1973-77) (Canberra & Goulburn); Rector of Lae (PNG) (1977-81); Canon and Dean of Goulburn (1981-87); Archdeacon of Goulburn (1985-87); Rector of Fortitude Valley (Brisbane) (1987-93); Hon Canon St John’s Cathedral Brisbane (1992-2001); Archbishop’s Ministry Chaplain (Brisbane) (1993-2001); Ministry Chaplain Anglican Institutions (Brisbane) (1999-2001); Rector of Bungendore (Canberra & Goulburn), Hon Canon Goulburn Cathedral & Diocesan Director of Ordinands (Canberra & Goulburn) (2001-05); PTO Melbourne (2005); PTO Wangaratta (2011); Director of Vocations (Wangaratta) (2012-16); Hon Canon (Wangaratta) (2016).
The funeral will be held at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Wangaratta at 11.00am on Saturday 18 March. Clergy are invited to process (white).
During his period of residence in Melbourne in his retirement Lyall was a valued member of the then Southern Region and for a period acting Archdeacon of Frankston.
We give thanks to God for the life and ministry of the Reverend Lyall Turley and pray for his wife Lauris, his family and friends at this time.
