Very Reverend Andriy Mykykyov of the Ukrainian Eparchy of Australia and members of Melbourne’s Ukrainian community joined in Choral Evensong at St Paul’s Cathedral recently to pray for peace in Ukraine.
Following an introduction from Dean Andreas Loewe, Father Andriy lit a candle for peace and spoke of the heartache of the trauma in his homeland before entrusting this situation to the Lord in prayer in the Ukrainian language.

Victoria Bakerov, an Ukrainian ordinand within our diocese and Bishop Philip Huggins read the lessons, while the Reverend Canon Chris Carolane preached on the immense compassion of Jesus and the assurance we find in God, our refuge and strength, drawing on Jesus’ response to Lazarus’ death in John 11 and from Psalm 46.

During the service we thanked God for all who have the courage to seek peace and stand up for what is right, and we called on the Sovereign Lord to have mercy on those suffering and in distress.
