Christians are using a card game to spark action and awareness in caring for God’s creation.

A Climate Fresk workshop will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral to engage participants in understanding the complexities of climate change.

The workshop aims to foster collaboration between churchgoers and the wider community on practical climate action.

St Mary’s North Melbourne’s Climate Action Group member and workshop co-facilitator Tim Pilbrow said Christians have a responsibility to steward God’s creation.

He said the workshop would connect this responsibility with a clearer understanding of how their actions affect the environment and ways to mitigate that.

Mr Pilbrow said participants collaborated to arrange cards representing climate factors, creating a “fresco” that visually showed their relationships.

He said while some connections between the cards were obvious, others were more obscure, prompting deeper reflection.

Participants then had space to discuss and explore emotional responses and actions they could take personally to address climate change.

Mr Pilbrow said the workshop brought people together, regardless of background or knowledge, to collaborate and share understanding.

He said everyone, from those with little knowledge of climate change to experts, could play a role in the discussion and problem-solving process.

Mr Pilbrow said the workshop aimed to educate participants about climate change, build community awareness, and inspire action.

He said Climate Fresk could serve as a tool for fostering interfaith dialogue and building connections within communities.

By engaging the broader community through such events, Christians could show their concerns went beyond personal spirituality to include global issues like climate change.

The workshop is organised by the Social Responsibilities Committee of the Melbourne Anglican Diocese and St Mary’s North Melbourne’s Climate Action Group.

The free Climate Fresk workshop is on 21 September at St Paul’s Cathedral. Registration is required as spaces are limited. For more information or to sign up, click here.
