Brisbane’s new Anglican archbishop is set to be installed in a ceremony at St John’s Anglican Cathedral.
Bishop Jeremy Greaves will become Brisbane’s 10th Anglican archbishop on Saturday, succeeding Archbishop Phillip Aspinall.
Bishop Greaves has been Bishop for the Northern Region of the Anglican Church of Southern Queensland for the past seven years.
Before this, he served in Queensland, the Northern Territory and South Australia.
Ahead of his installation, Bishop Greaves said the church should offer hope and a place of welcome and safety as many people faced difficulty, including First Nations people, refugees, those seeking acceptance of their sexuality, and those who felt the effects of loneliness.
Bishop Greaves said he believed the church had a story to tell that could transform peoples’ lives and the world.
“The gospel of Jesus’ life, ministry, teaching, death and resurrection remains good news today, as it has always been,” Bishop Greaves said.
“We need to find ways of sharing that good news so that it can be heard afresh in this season in the life of the Church.”
