“I often find myself re-reading 2 Peter 3. “With the Lord, a day is like a thousand years.” A thousand years! It’s almost impossible to fathom. “God is not slow in keeping his promises. Instead, he is patient with us, not wanting anyone to perish…” For myself, I need that reminder every day. It’s so easy to get caught up in today’s struggles and deadlines, let alone tomorrow’s unknowns. And yet, truly, God holds all of time in his hands and purposes. He is not surprised. He is never impatient. He is not weary or distracted or distant.

Darren and I lived and worked in Nepal for six years, serving with the International Nepal Fellowship (INF), which was an immense privilege. We loved the opportunity to work at local hospitals and train physiotherapists and be part of the local community. It was also hard and overwhelming, at times. We had daily questions, through the civil war and rain and poverty. Oh Lord, what are you doing? The answer was often the same. God holds all of time in his hands and purposes. He is patient with us, not wanting anyone to perish. Every day, he is at work, drawing people to himself, in Christ, and restoring our souls. We can say thank you.”

Naomi Reed is an INF Ambassador and the author of 12 books, including ‘My Seventh Monsoon’ and her latest, ‘Every Moment, Everywhere’. She will be speaking at event organised by International Nepal Fellowship at St Hilary’s Anglican Church, North Balwyn on Saturday 11th October, 6.30pm.
