A retired solicitor and former director of the Anglican Diocesan Schools Commission is among several Melbourne Anglicans recognised in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours list.

Antony Greenwood was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his outstanding contributions to the Anglican Church, and governance and legal advisory organisations.

Mr Greenwood who is a congregant at St James’ Old Cathedral West Melbourne also served as treasurer at that parish from 2014 to 2018,  and was a long-standing member of the Melbourne diocese Board of Reference.

He was also president of the diocese’s New Cranmer Society and has been a recipient of the Rotary Club of Melbourne’s Club Axle award in 2012.

Mr Greenwood said he had been active in church politics through involvement in synods, and in various committees through much of his working life.

He believed that having a strong mentor was always helpful and counted Sydney Bishop Donald Cameron and Melbourne accountant and Ethics in Business author Eric Easton among his most important guides.

Mr Greenwood said he had been a Christian since the age of 11.

“I resolved to stick with what I learned in Sunday school. Since then, I have tried to contribute my skills in any way that is useful,” he said.

These days Mr Greenwood remains active in his congregation and continues to serve the Rotary Club of Melbourne in governance.

Former Diocese of Melbourne chancellor Michael Shand said Mr Greenwood had been an exemplary participant of the Professional Standards Review Board, and was someone he had been able to discuss legal issues with for years.
